As parents and caretakers of children, their path to leadership is in our hands. We can model and teach the skills that will equip them to lead themselves and others in this hyper-competitive world, or we can allow them to fall victim to the kind of thinking that makes them slaves to the status quo.
The Webster dictionary defines leadership as
1 1. Office or position of a leader
2. Capacity to lead
3. The act or an instance of leading
Leadership is also the ability of a person to set and achieve challenging goals, take swift and decisive action, outperform the competition, and inspire others to perform well; Leadership is the ability of an individual or a group of individuals to influence and guide followers or other members of an organization. The role of a leader involves making sound (and sometimes difficult) decisions, creating and articulating a clear vision, establishing achievable goals and providing followers with the knowledge and tools necessary to achieve these goals.
HOW TO BE A LEADER
The following steps will position you to lead and influence others, include these steps in your daily routine and you will gradually become a positive and influential leader.
1.Take Responsibility For Your Actions
Not all of your actions are good ones, not all of your choices and decisions are something to be proud of. The real point is when you take responsibility for what you do, you gain control over your life and you learn about what went wrong. Accepting responsibility for your actions sets a good example to others and can leave you with great lessons learned
To be proactive is taking action by causing change and not reacting to change when it happens. Stop sitting and waiting around for your big break or for luck to come your way, luck will never come your way unless you are willing to meet it halfway. Make a commitment to try new things and see where that takes you, BE OPENMINDED
3. Engage in Positive Actions
JUST DO WHAT'S RIGHT. If you see something wrong in your community, take steps to fix it e.g. Too much garbage, lying around instead of watching it you can decide to form a group and start cleaning up, it's as simple as that. Sometimes however it can be hard to do the responsible thing when there are better activities awaiting you such as hanging out with friends, TV shows etc. Some decisions are also harder than others, but the whole summary is doing what will make you feel less guilty, less stressed and less bad.
Taking these three powerful steps will put you in a position to lead others and commitment to them will also lead to a TON of other good changes in your life.
