Sewing is a valuable life skill for any child to learn. From practicing fine motor skills to increase problem solving to building self-esteem to nurturing design talent, sewing unlocks the doors to a variety of interesting projects. Let’s begin with the basics.
Our ancestors first taught children “plain sewing.” Before the sewing machine existed, everything a family wore was sewn by hand. Thus, it was important for as many people as possible to learn to sew early and often!
Even though children will be itching to get to the sewing machine, some skills are best demonstrated first by hand.
This course allows children to learn how to use their hands to manipulate the needle and thread and gain an understanding of the thread going up and down and securing itself to the fabric, and helps to demonstrate in a very basic way, how the sewing machine works. So, letting those fingers explore is a great way to begin the sewing adventure.
The Creative Holiday's fashion course seeks to develop and bring together a class of young designers that will promote the Nigerian brand.
The next generation of up-and-coming fashion designers, ages 13 to 18, will be mentored by top fashion houses within the city.
The runway premiere will be staged during the Easter Holiday exhibition. The contestants (young designers) with their mentors (Fashion Houses within the city) will compete with each other to create the best fashion. Their designs are judged, and one or more designers are eliminated within that period based on the judges' scores until only a few contestants remain. These finalists will prepare a complete fashion collection for the Creative Holiday exhibition, from which winners are determined at a runway event to be organized by Creative Holiday.
We welcome fashion created from non-traditional materials in any of the following such as: apartment furnishings, recyclable materials, items from a grocery store, edible food items, plants and flowers. The fashion can also be centered on a specialized theme (such as "cocktail party", "traditional", "carnival", or "wedding gown").
The winners of the Creative Holiday final runway will receive prizes varying from a scholarship to setup a home studio and featuring in prestigious fashion magazines both within and outside Nigeria where their mentors will also be promoted and acknowledged.
